In Schenectady, local businesses and individual contributors have come together to help a 10-year-old Scotia girl who recently lost both parents to illness within a short period of time. A fund-raising event for Riley Mossa-Folk was held last weekend at the Wolf Hollow Brewing Company in Schenectady, where businesses and community members donated gift cards, wine, luggage and other items for a raffle. The brewery donated $1 for each pint sold during the event. In addition, family members have established a GoFundMe page to help offset the cost of college tuition, medical needs and other activities. To donate to the GoFundMe page, go to https://www.gofundme.com and search for Contribute to Riley’s Future. As of Thursday, it had raised more than $12,000. For more information, read our article on the fund-raising effort.

In Albany, actor Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes in the Captain America movie series, is helping local kids who are suffering from critical illnesses by donating a unique, signed Captain America shield to the Make-A-Wish Northeast New York, which will raffle it off to raise money. The full-sized, 25-inch metal shield, which has leather straps and a carrying case, is one of only six produced and the only one signed by Marvel Cinematic Universe actors Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Wyatt Russell and Stan. Raffle tickets are $25 each, or five for $100. The winner will be announced at the Make-A-Wish chapter’s March 26 Spark Joy Gala. To receive a raffle ticket, call the Make-A-Wish office at 518-456-9474 or visit during business hours Monday through Friday at 3 Washington Square, Albany. Tickets will be mailed to callers, as online sales are prohibited. Participants must be 18 or older to enter. For more information about Make-A-Wish, visit https://wish.org/neny.
