Versant Power gives gas gift cards to Meals on Wheels program volunteers – WABI

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – The folks at Versant Power are lending a hand to a local meals on wheels program.

They’re giving one thousand dollars in gas cards to volunteers with Eastern Area Agency on Aging.

Amanda Cummings with Versant Power says this was the perfect opportunity to partner with an important program.

Executive Director Rebecca Kirk says the volunteers are a critical part of getting meals to area seniors who can’t get out.

With the price of gas going up, Kirk says they don’t want their volunteers to have to stop delivering meals.

”This program is a lifeline for a lot of the older citizens in Maine, and cutting off that lifeline just seems like an unbearable decision for us to have to do,” Kirk said.

Kirk says they will prioritize their volunteers in rural areas that have to drive upwards of 100 miles to deliver meals.

She says they are in need of drivers in Ellsworth and other parts of Hancock County.
