Raleigh, N.C. — Animal shelters always need more people to adopt dogs and cats so space can be cleared for more animals.
To encourage adoptions, the Wake County Animal Center is slashing its adoption fees to $25 for dogs and name-your-price for cats for St. Patrick’s Day week.
The adoption special runs Saturday, March 12 through Sunday, March 18. As of Friday morning, 31 dogs and nine cats are in the shelter waiting for forever homes. Another seven dogs and 12 cats are under the care of fosters.
You can view a gallery of adoptable animals online or visit the shelter at 820 Beacon Lake Drive, near the intersection of I-440 and New Bern Avenue.
The shelter is open for adoptions daily from noon to 6 p.m. seven days a week.
Last month, worried some dogs would have to be euthanized for lack of space, shelter officials put out an urgent call for adopters. Thankfully, the community answered the call, although new animals arrive at the shelter every day in need of homes.
Also on Friday, Orange County Animal Services in Chapel Hill urged the community to adopt a dog.
Adopters can visit any animal shelter in any county — you don’t have to live in the area to adopt a pet.
