The Lake Zurich Police Department has launched a new program with Advance Auto Parts retail store in an effort to increase roadway safety for residents, police department officials announced in a news release.
The Advance Auto Parts in Lake Zurich, located at 740 S. Rand Rd., is providing a total of $1,500 worth of gift cards – with $25 on each card – to officers that will be distributed to some scofflaws, the release states. The gift cards, which will be usable at any Advance Auto Parts location, will be given to motorists pulled over for traffic stops where such infractions as broken headlights, tail lights, or other equipment issues are noted instead of handing a citation, all as incentive to repair their vehicles, according to the release.

The initiative started June 9, police officials said in the release.
“As we head into summer and more drivers hit the road, it’s important to keep roadway safety top of mind,” Lake Zurich police Chief Steve Husak said in the release. “These are trying economic times. By partnering with our local Advance Auto Parts store, we can assist drivers with a means to obtain the parts needed to safely operate their vehicles.”

According to officials, Advance Auto Parts has been teaming up with several police departments across the nation for this safety program since the start of 2022. The Lake Zurich Police Department is the first agency in Lake County and only the second in Illinois to participate.
Advance Auto Parts District Manager Darin Green referred to the program as “very important, because headlights can cause some issues on the road.”
“Tail lights, brake lights, turn signals can cause safety issues, and we just want to make sure we are helping that motorist with a little bit of money to help them get that thing fixed so they are safe out on the road.”
